This is Claire, Claire is married to childhood sweetheart Nick and together they have 5 gorgeous girls. Claire documents her life with Nick and the girls in her blog, http://thefreerangefamily.co.uk
It’s obvious from her blog that Claire leads a very active life, from home schooling her children, cooking with kids, to crafts and trekking with the ponies – this family is just nonstop!
After meeting Claire in the summer, we were really interested to find out how she copes when taking 5 girls swimming! ‘Actually, I don’t go swimming, Nick takes the girls’
It turns out that Claire is an ex swim coach and as a teenager swam semi-professionally training up to 4 times a week, and so naturally you’d think she would be keen to be the one to teach her daughters to swim, yet Claire has stopped swimming over the past 10 years.
‘When I was training, swimwear never used to bother me, but since I’ve had the girls I just can’t stand being virtually naked in public.’
It’s not just Claire that feels this was, 32% of all new mums will not swim with their babies and children as they feel too vulnerable in swimwear. As a result 1 in 5 adults cannot swim! Claire continues,
‘It’s not that I worry about my weight, I’m a slim size 10 and so people often find it strange that I feel this way about swimwear, but this isn’t about body image. When you become a mum you change inside and out, you feel differently about most things and I find swimwear today overtly skimpy, and I don’t feel comfortable swimming with my girls when wearing it and have never found a suitable alternative.’
We introduced Claire to Bohn Swimwear, mix and match cover up swimwear that allows you to choose the level of coverage you want. Claire went for a pair of Bohn Swimwear “Margie” swim shorts and the Bohn Swimwear “Jansie” Tankini top.
Claire felt confident enough to take the plunge and went swimming with all 5 of her girls. Claire says ‘Finding out about Bohn Swimwear has been life changing. I no longer have to watch from the side, I can now join in with my family.’
Claire is supporting Bohn Swimwear in #Familyswimtime campaign. Bohn Swimwear has an aim of getting all new mums and babies swimming.
“Hi Sarah Bohn here. I wanted to share Claire’s story with you. I think it is so important for mums to be getting in the water with their kids. Why should only the dads be having all the fun! Not only are many women missing out on some great fun and family memories, but they are also not teaching their children water safety, to swim and to not be scared of the water.
There is also a deeper message to send our girls. That swimming is fun, exercise and moving our body is fun, and should be done because it makes us feel good. Taking away a barrier for Claire of the dreaded “swimsuit” is wonderful, and is exactly why I started Bohn swimwear. Happy Swimming everyone” Sarah Bohn
